My Top 5 beauty products

No one has ever accused me of being low maintenance.  I love makeup, hair and clothes.  However, since I’ve changed careers from the corporate world to fitness, my routine has been pared down significantly. Who has time to get into full hair and makeup for a 5:30 am group fitness class?  However, I still like to look and feel put together because in general, it makes me feel more confident.  That is what releasing your sparkle is–creating your best self! I wanted to share with you my top 5 makeup products I can’t live without.

  1. Makeup Geek eyeshadow pan in Crème Brulee ($6).

Forget MAC.  I switched over to Makeup Geek eye shadows a few years ago and haven’t looked back. In my opinion, these eye shadows are superior in quality, blend well and aren’t chalky.  As I get older, I am gravitating more towards matte shadows, as shimmers and glitter can enhance wrinkles, not minimize them!  Makeup Geek matte shadows are the best and at $6 are extremely affordable!  Crème Brulee is a medium sand color with soft matte finish.  When I’m in a hurry, I blend this all over my lid to the crease with a soft fluffy brush, add mascara and a bit of liner and I’m good to go!  If I’m getting ready for a night out, I use this in the crease paired with darker colors to create a transition color that softens harsh lines.

  1. IT cosmetics Your Skin But Better BB cream ($38)

While a bit pricier than other BB creams and foundations, this stuff is no joke and lives up to its name.  I received a sample of it and immediately went out and bought the full size at Ulta Cosmetics.  Not only does it nourish your skin and offer 50 SPF, it gives you full, flawless coverage that does not look heavy.  I set this with a bit of translucent powder.

  1. Tarte Double Duty Beauty Shape Tape Contour Concealer ($25)

I came across this buzzed about product while watching YouTube videos from my favorite beauty vlogger Jaclyn Hill. At first I could not even find my color because it was always sold out.  This is an Ulta Cosmetics exclusive product and you will not be disappointed so buy two tubes! It is a hydrating, long wearing formula that blends beautifully.  You will not believe how long it lasts!  Let’s face it, as we get older concealer is a must for those dark circles and redness. You don’t need any color corrector with Shape Tape. Hint: use this over your lids and set with a bit of powder before adding eye shadow.  It’s the perfect lid primer that evens out the lids so your shadows pop!

  1. Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz Pencil ($21)

There have been imitators, but no one has replaced this product in my book.  Brows frame you face and I rarely leave the house without them done!  Using short feathery strokes, you can create a natural filled in brow.  It lasts on your face all day and the product is enough for three months or more.  For my blond brows, I use the color Taupe.

  1. MAC Cosmetics lipstick in Honey Love ($17.50)

While I have moved away from MAC products in general, there are still some things I cannot do without. One is this matte, light beige rose toned lipstick. Paired with MAC Spice lip liner, it makes the perfect nude lip for your smoky eye, but worn with just the Crème Brulee eyeshadow, provides a natural daytime look.

I wanted to keep this list to 5 products, but couldn’t resist sharing with you my new go to false eyelashes. I admit it.  I am someone who wears false eyelashes every day.  Don’t judge.  My natural eyelashes are extremely blond, fine and thin.  After having eyelash extensions for over two years, I look like Kermit the Frog without lashes.  So, these little gems are my savior.  The look naturalish and last up to 10 uses if you carefully peel off the lash glue.  I know false eyelashes can be intimidating for some, but with practice, they aren’t hard!
